Emil Awad is Mexican, of Lebanese descent. Educated at Harvard and Juilliard, he was a student of Milton Babbitt and Donald Martino.

His guitar solo, Fouad, gets its title from a family name. Awad adopts flamenco rhythms and harmonies, remaking these in his own unique way. This work ties together a remarkable number of musical traditions spanning hundreds of years.
